After reading media reports about the forced evictions taking place in Calais and hearing directly from asylum seekers about their experiences in France, we decided to do a local donation drive to try and help the situation. Coordinating with local charity CAMCRAG we set out to collect items for asylum seekers who were lacking resources to meet their basic needs.
A few social media posts later and we were overwhelmed with the generous responses from our local community. In just two months of asking for donations, we collected, sorted and donated over 1500 items!
It was this initial donation drive that made us realise that people in our community wanted to help, but were unsure of how they could, or were reluctant to donate to large charities being unsure that their donation was quickly was reaching those in need. It was from this that Our World Collective was born.
Our World Collective has been set up to enable people to donate or purchase items to support asylum seekers, that can be directed where needed by us. We direct these items to our charity partners; charities that we have relationships with and we can be confident the items are going where they are needed. The relationships we have with our community members and our charities means that our core values of care, share and support can be achieved.
We are looking forward to getting more communities involved and welcome any thoughts you have to increase our reac
Hi!
It’s so nice of you to join us! We are really hoping this space will be your go to place for when you want to help or donate to charity but aren’t quite sure how. We can be that friendly face, holding your hand and showing you the way.
On a day-to-day basis I work as a Bacteriologist in an Equine Veterinary Laboratory, Which basically means I grow bacteria. In my spare time you will usually find me out and about in the countryside (my favourite place) riding my horse Honey or walking my dog, Marley.
I am super excited to be a part of Our World Collective. I can't think of anything better than doing what we can to help people, especially if it means helping to debunk some of the myths that the media like to write in their stories. We are all about spreading love and kindness to anyone who needs it.
Welcome to Our World Collective!
Nice to meet you! Thanks for heading over to say hello!
It has been amazing to be able to set up Our World Collective and I am so excited to see how far we can go with your help so we can offer additional support to the charities we are helping.
Aside from the work with Our World Collective, I am a social worker doing lots of different pieces of work including with asylum seekers. I love the role I play in offering assistance to asylum seekers and therefore, I am so pleased that Our World Collective can add additional support.
In my spare time, I like to horse-ride, practice yoga and walk my dogs - Penny, Poppy and Lucky. Food is very important to me so you can often find me thinking about food, planning my meals and daydreaming of cake.
I look forward to speaking to you and us all making a change together as we all CARE, SHARE and SUPPORT together.
Hi everyone!
Thanks for checking out Our World Collective. I'm really pleased to be part of this collective to enable our local communities to support asylum seekers in the UK and Europe.
I work in public engagement and I'm passionate about engaging with people, and sharing knowledge and experiences. I have learnt so much from Sarah and her work with asylum seekers in the UK and the difficulties they face. I hope that, as well as facilitating practical support for asylum seekers, we can raise awareness of the issues they face and provide useful information to support informed opinions within our communities.
Like Sarah and Bianca I also enjoy being out in the countryside, come rain or shine (let's face it, we're in the UK, it's mostly rain!) looking after my horse and walking my dog, I also love baking so it's a good job I have an active lifestyle :)
Thank you for joining us!
